The 15-Day / 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course in Rishikesh at Vinyasa Yoga Academy is a comprehensive residential programme designed for anyone who wants to deepen their personal yoga practice, explore traditional yogic teachings, or develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to begin teaching yoga professionally. The course follows a structured, step-by-step approach that balances practical training with theoretical learning and welcomes both complete beginners and experienced practitioners.

Yoga Practice & Traditional Techniques

Held in Rishikesh, the course offers an immersive experience in yoga, meditation, philosophy and yogic living. Students explore traditional practices including Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga, along with Pranayama, Meditation, Yoga Nidra, Mantra Chanting, Mudras, Bandhas and Shatkarma. The practical sessions help participants develop greater awareness of the body, breath and mind while establishing a consistent and disciplined yoga practice.

Yoga Philosophy & Traditional Knowledge

The philosophy component introduces students to the traditional foundations and concepts of yoga. Topics include the history of yoga, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Eight Limbs of Yoga, Yamas and Niyamas, Karma, Meditation, Samadhi, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, Chakras, Nadis, Kundalini and Panchakosha. These teachings help students understand the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of yoga and how they connect with daily practice and yogic living.

Anatomy, Physiology & Ayurveda

Students develop an understanding of the relationship between yoga and the human body through Anatomy and Physiology classes covering body structure, movement, bones, muscles, joints, and the nervous and respiratory systems. The programme also introduces yogic concepts such as Nadis, Chakras, Kundalini, Panchakosha, Pancha Mahabhuta and Tri-Guna, along with the fundamental concepts of Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy and their relationship with asana, Pranayama and Meditation.

Meditation & Inner Awareness

Meditation and inner awareness form an important part of the training. Students are introduced to different meditation traditions and practices, including breath awareness, mindfulness, Mantra Meditation, Tratak, walking meditation, Chakra awareness, Kundalini active meditation, Japa, Kirtan and silence practice. Yoga Nidra is also included as a practice of deep relaxation and meditation, with students learning its principles and practical techniques.

Teaching Methodology & Practical Training

The Teaching Methodology component prepares students to confidently guide yoga classes in different settings. Participants learn how to demonstrate and explain practices, structure a class, provide alignment guidance and adjustments, work with students at different levels, use props appropriately and create a safe and effective learning environment. Practical and written evaluations are also included to assess areas such as attendance, performance, asana demonstration, theoretical knowledge and overall conduct.

Course Structure & Self-Practice

The curriculum consists of 14 core subjects and combines practical training with theoretical learning and self-practice. The programme includes 100 hours of Techniques, Training and Practice, 20 hours of Anatomy and Physiology, 30 hours of Yoga Humanities and 50 hours of Professional Essentials, including teaching methodology, professional development and practicum. The 15-day format provides an intensive learning environment where students can engage closely with the course material and integrate the teachings into their personal practice.

Yogic Lifestyle & Rishikesh Experiences

The course follows a disciplined yogic lifestyle and community-based approach, with a daily routine that includes early morning silence and meditation, Pranayama, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Anatomy, Alignment, Philosophy, Hatha Yoga, self-study and reflection. Weekly activities may include Sound Healing and Kirtan, while Sundays are generally reserved for excursions or free time. Students can also experience the spiritual and cultural environment of Rishikesh through temple visits, Ganga Aarti, cave meditation, Himalayan sunrise experiences and Kirtan.

Residential Experience & Inclusions

The residential programme includes accommodation, three daily sattvic vegetarian meals, study materials, yoga mats and props, weekly workshops, Neti equipment, local excursions and the course completion certificate. Students can choose from shared and private accommodation options. The residential setting allows participants to follow a structured daily routine while remaining focused on their yoga practice, studies and overall learning experience.

No previous yoga experience or advanced flexibility is required. Certification & Further Learning

Upon successful completion, students receive a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training course completion certificate and are eligible to apply for the RYT 200 designation with Yoga Alliance. The training provides a foundation for students who wish to teach yoga in studios, wellness centres, private settings, online or independently, while also serving as a pathway toward further yoga education.
